Thomas Deacon Education Trust

D of E staff training

Staff from Queen Katharine Academy join the Thomas Deacon Academy team for the first combined Duke of Edinburgh training weekend.

Each year TDA runs a training event for the D of E staff team and this year the QKA team joined them for a weekend of hiking in the Peak District.

The group of staff leaders came together to learn the skills required for leading students on expeditions including teamwork, navigation and resilience. The weather certainly tested the resolve of the three groups as the strong winds blew hailstones across the hills for much of the six hour hike.

In addition to the training aspect, the weekend also provided a great opportunity for staff across the two secondary schools to network and meet new people. This will now become an annual combined event for the schools as we move forward as a Trust.
